In early 2017, I worked remotely as a freelance Senior 3d Generalist for Felix & Paul Studios. The primary project I was responsible for was to create a realistic digital version of a physical set, constructed for “The Confessional”, a comedy VR project starring celebrities such as Trevor Noah. All of the actors would be filmed in 360, and then seamlessly composited into the digital set which I created based on photography of the physical set. This digital set would be rendered at much higher resolution and stereoscopic fidelity than could ever be done with a 360 camera, and alleviate such issues as where to hide the tripod and up-close stereo depth stitching. I meticulously modelled, textured and lit the set to the exact specifications, and delivered 8k stereoscopic renderings.

There was also a consideration for creating a real-time rendered version of the set which viewers could walk around in. As such I optimized and re-configured my 3ds max + Vray pre-rendered version to work in Unreal engine. This ultimately was not used for the initial release as the platform targeted was Youtube / Daydream 360, but was a good feasibility study / proof of concept for a future 6-degrees-of-freedom full VR version.

I was also tasked with experimenting with the Studio's static logo, to come up with potential animated verisons. I modelled and animated their two characters in full CG, and was asked to render flat silhouetted versions as these would work well as the intro to any of their 360 videos. Since I fully modelled, textured, rigged and animated the characters in 3d, they could potentially be rendered realistically as well.
